From the workshop of Italfama in Florence, Italy, comes this beautiful chess set that includes their combination metal and wood Classic Staunton Chessmen matched our Blue Ash Burl and Erable Chess Board made for us by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain. This attractive set incorporates wood columns between a metal base and top for an elegant chess set design. The metal surface of each piece is decorated with a unique ornamental engraving giving them a luxurious appearance. The king is 7.5 cm (approx. 3") tall and has a base diameter of 2.5 cm (approx. 1"). The pieces are made from solid cast zinc formed by the old-world lost-wax casting process and are brass and nickel plated. The pieces are lacquered to prevent them from ever tarnishing and have felt pads embossed with the Italfama logo.The blue ash burl and erable chess board creates a stunning backdrop against the dark and light wood with along with the brass and nickel plated chess pieces. The natural wood grain of the ash burl creates a range of rich blue colors that softly swirl and intermingle creating unique and colorful patterns. The white squares are whitened bird's-eye maple that contrasts nicely with the dark blue squares. The board is finished in high gloss polyurethane that produces a glass-like finish reflecting the color of the metal chess pieces.
