This chess includes our Chetak Staunton in padauk and boxwood matched with Italfama's Walnut Burl and Whitened Bird's Eye Maple chess board. This unique Staunton set is named after Maharana Pratap's famous Arabian stallion for which he rode during the famous battle of Haldighati. Chetak was killed during the battle and was immortalized forever in the legend of the battle. Pieces are made from premium quality padauk and boxwood and are heavily weighted to provide exceptional stability on the chess board. The knight is beautifully carved with realistic features and detail that only the most skilled carvers in the world can accurately carve and replicate from piece to piece. All of the pieces are beautifully shaped with a unique and elegant profile that creates a coherent pattern from pawn to king. The lathe work is simply extraordinary. The Chetak is a large set with a king that is 4.25" tall and a base of 1.875". The king features a highly ornate finial that is unique from any other chess set in our collection. The pieces have thick green baize pads so you can slide your pieces across the board or sit down softly.From the craftsmen at Italfama in Italy, this stunning chess board made from the finest walnut burl and whitened bird's-eye maple veneer is one of the most beautiful in our collection. Walnut burl has unique and beautiful character with rich brown colors that intermingle creating in irregular patterns making each chess board a unique creation. The high gloss polyurethane gives the chess board a glass-like finish that enhances the color and depth of the irregular burl wood patterns. The whitened bird's-eye maple used for the white squares creates a wonderful contrast next to the darker walnut burl. A black delimiter defines the playing area from the extra wide frame gives this elegant chess board visual balance.
