The pieces have an elegant profile and the knight is beautifully sculpted with fine detail. The obsidian black ebony and natural color of the boxwood chess pieces go perfect with the walnut and maple chess board. This is a large set with a tall king and a base diameter of 1.875". The pieces are triple weighted for exceptional stability on the chess board and have thick green baize pads for easily sliding from square to square and a soft feel when placing down. From the craftsmen at Italfama in Italy, this stunning chess board made from the finest walnut burl and whitened bird's-eye maple veneer is one of the most beautiful in our collection. Walnut burl has unique and beautiful character with rich brown and orange colors that intermingle creating in irregular patterns making each chess board a unique creation. The high gloss polyurethane gives the chess board a glass-like finish that enhances the colors and depth of the irregular burl wood patterns.
