This beautiful handcrafted European chess set combines Italfama's Medieval Figurine chess pieces from Italy matched with Rechapados Ferrer's Blue Ash Burl and Whitened Bird's Eye Maple chess board from Spain. The pieces are designed to capture the essence of the medieval period representing the king, his queen, church bishops, armored horses for knight, a castle tower for the rook, and medieval soldiers for the pawns. The king is 3.625" tall and has a base diameter of 1.25". The pieces are solid cast zinc formed by the old-world lost-wax casting process and are brass and nickel plated. The pieces are lacquered to prevent them from ever tarnishing and have red felt pads embossed with the Italfama logo.The blue ash burl and erable chess board creates a stunning backdrop against the bright gold and silver color of the brass and nickel plated chess pieces. The natural wood grain of the ash burl creates a range of rich blue colors that softly swirl and intermingle creating unique and colorful patterns. The white squares are whitened bird's-eye maple that contrasts nicely with the dark blue squares. The board is finished in high gloss polyurethane that produces a glass-like finish reflecting the color of the metal chess pieces.
