This colorful chess set includes our Reykjavik with crimson stained and natural boxwood pieces matched with our Red and Maple High Gloss Chess Board. Our Reykjavik Series Chess set is the same one used by the legendary American Grandmaster Bobby Fischer when he beat reigning world champion and Grandmaster Boris Spassky in the 1972 World Chess Championship in Reykjavik, Iceland. These handsome pieces have traditional Staunton features and are a favorite for chess players wanting a set that will stand up to the rigor of frequent use. These are crimson stained and natural boxwood pieces with a traditional polished lacquer finish and are heavily weighted for superior balance and stability on the chess board. The king is tall and has a base diameter of 1.625", the perfect size for tournament chess games. Thick green billiard cloth pads let the pieces slide smoothly across the chess board and a quite soft feel when sitting down. We include two extra queens for pawn promotion and a certificate of authenticity so you will always know what the chess set is and where it came from.This beautiful chess board is made for us by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain and the craftsmanship of the inlay work is remarkable. You will love the way the wood grain shows through the red stain so you don't lose the wood effect. We added a solid black pinstripe around the playing area along with an extra wide frame. The high gloss polyurethane finish further enhances the color and beauty of the chess board by creating a glass-like appearance that matches the chess pieces perfectly.
