The king is tall with a base diameter of 1.25", an excellent size for tournament play or the game at home. Pieces are heavily weighted for exceptional stability and have thick green baize pads on the bottom for a soft cushion and allow pieces to slide smoothly across the chess board. The German Knight Staunton ranks as the most popular chess set ever made is often used in tournaments, matches, television shows, movies and featured on chess book covers.The rich orange-brown color of our Mahogany and Maple Molded Edge chess board make a wonderful backdrop against the jet black ebonized and cream-colored boxwood pieces. This is an inlaid chess board made from the finest mahogany and maple veneer and sealed with a semi-gloss polyurethane finish to protect the wood. The precision of the inlay work is remarkable.
