This chess set includes our Reykjavik Series Chess Pieces in ebony and boxwood matched with our Mahogany and Maple Molded Edge Chess Board. The Reykjavik draws inspiration from the chess set used by the legendary American Grandmaster Bobby Fischer when he beat reigning world champion and Grandmaster Boris Spassky in the 1972 World Chess Championship in Reykjavik, Iceland. This is a thirty-four-piece set that includes two extra queens for pawn promotion. The pieces are handcrafted from genuine ebony and boxwood with the ebony pieces polished to a lustrous obsidian black finish. This is a tournament size set with a 3.75"-inch-tall king. The pieces are heavily weighted for exceptional stability and have thick green baize pads on the bottom for a soft cushion and that allow the pieces to slide smoothly across the chess board. The simplistic but elegant elements of this famous design have made it a popular chess set for decades.Our Mahogany and Maple Molded Edge Chess Board from Rechapados Ferrer combines classic design with elegant features to create an eye-catching battlefield for your chess game. This is an inlaid chess board handcrafted from high quality mahogany and maple veneer and sealed with a polyurethane finish that both protects and enhances the beauty of the wood. A wide black delimiter accentuates the playing field and enhances the rich color of the mahogany while the black stained molded edge highlights the entire board. The squares are 2" and the footprint of the board is 19.75" square. Four felt pads on the bottom will protect whatever furniture the board sets on.Our Classic Mahogany Chess Box is wonderfully constructed and reminiscent of the old heirloom quality boxes from years ago. The box is covered in mahogany veneer while the interior is lined with a luxurious thick green baize just like we use for the pads on our chess pieces. The box is a loose-piece design for simple stacking of the pieces and has a divider in the center for neatly storing the black and white pieces separately.
