This chess set is the same one used by the legendary American Grandmaster Bobby Fischer when he beat reigning world champion and Grandmaster Boris Spassky in the 1972 World Chess Championship in Reykjavik, Iceland. These handsome pieces have traditional Staunton features and are a favorite for chess players wanting a set that will stand up to the rigor of frequent use. These are boxwood pieces with a unique decorative design carved into each piece and a high gloss lacquer finish. The pieces are heavily weighted for superior balance and stability on the chess board. The king is tall and has a base diameter of 1.625", the perfect size for tournament chess games. Thick green billiard cloth pads let the pieces slide smoothly across the chess board and a quite soft feel when sitting down. We include two extra queens for pawn promotion and a certificate of authenticity so you will always know what the chess set is and where it came from. This is an inlaid chess board handcrafted from high quality mahogany and maple veneer and sealed with a polyurethane finish that both protects and enhances the beauty of the wood. A wide black delimiter accentuates the playing field and enhances the rich color of the mahogany while the black stained molded edge highlights the entire board. The squares are 2" and the footprint of the board is 19.75" square.
