The Reykjavik draws inspiration from the chess set used by the legendary American Grandmaster Bobby Fischer when he beat reigning world champion and Grandmaster Boris Spassky in the 1972 World Chess Championship in Reykjavik, Iceland. The pieces are handcrafted from boxwood and then burnt and engraved to reveal the boxwood underneath creating a unique and beautiful pattern on each piece. This is a 34-piece set that includes two extra queens for pawn promotion. The king is tall with a base diameter of 1.625", the perfect size for tournament chess games. Heavily weighted for exceptional stability, the pieces have thick green baize pads for a soft cushion on the chess board.
