The chess board is made from black stained poplar and bird's-eye maple veneer and has a decorative mahogany inlaid border to delineate the playing area. There are two drawers, one on each player's side that completely pull out to make it easy to put pieces away or take them back out. A recessed magnet on each of the drawer secures the drawer when closed. The compartments will hold a chess set with up to a 3.25" tall king and a base diameter of 1.5".
