One notable unit that flew the P-40B was the 3rd Pursuit Squadron also known as the "Flying Tigers" a volunteer group of American pilots who fought for China against Japan in the early stages of the war.The 3rd Pursuit Squadron was deployed to China in 1941 and quickly gained a reputation for their effectiveness in air combat. They flew the P-40B extensively in their missions which included escorting bombers attacking enemy airfields and engaging in dogfights with Japanese planes.The P-40B was also used by the Royal Air Forces 112 Squadron in North Africa. They saw action in the Western Desert Campaign providing close air support to ground forces and engaging in air-to-air combat with German pla.
