Capt. Teruhiko Kobayashi flying with the 244th Sentai of the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force (IJAAF) operated the Ki-61 from Chofu Air Base in 1945. The Ki-61 was distinctive for being the only mass-produced Japanese fighter aircraft to feature a liquid-cooled inline V engine.In 1945 during the waning days of the war the Ki-61 was employed in various Pacific Theater conflicts engaging Allied aircraft in intense dogfights. Known for its speed and agility the Ki-61 could hold its own against many contemporary fighters. Despite facing challenges such as limited resources and evolving air combat dynamics Capt.
