This is our Deluxe Old Club Series chess set with a decorative burnt and engraved design in the boxwood pieces. The Deluxe Old Club is an ageless classic that for years has been a favorite with players for its distinguished knight and traditional Staunton design. To create the black, the chess pieces are actually burnt followed by the final carving and design work which creates a beautiful contrast in colors between the blackened areas and the natural golden wood colors underneath. Chess pieces are then finished in high gloss lacquer giving the chess pieces a glass-like finish. A wonderful set for a casual game of chess or tournament play. This is a tournament size set with a tall king. The pieces are heavily weighted for exceptional balance and stability while thick green billiard cloth pads allow the pieces to slide smoothly across the chess board.
