This handcrafted antique reproduction chess set includes our British Staunton with ebonized and natural boxwood pieces matched with our Classic Mahogany and Maple Chess Board. Our British Staunton is based on an old British Chess Company chess set from many years ago. It's purely traditional with all the features a player and collector looks for in a high quality Staunton chess set. The ebonized boxwood is jet black and polished to a a beautiful shine while the cream colored natural boxwood is the perfect wood for the white chess pieces. The pieces are individually hand polished and lacquered to a beautiful luster. The king is tall and has a base diameter of 1.5" - the ideal size for a game at home. The pieces have thick green baize pads so they slide smoothly across the chess board and are heavily weighted for stability. The British Staunton has been favorite with chess players for years and continues to be a popular choice. Our Classic Mahogany and Maple Chess Board is wonderfully handcrafted from the finest veneers and sealed in a semi-gloss polyurethane finish that both enhances and protects the character of the wood. This board features 2" squares and has a footprint of 19.5" and is .5" thick. We framed the squares in a wide black delimiter to both accentuate the playing area and enhance the rich color of the mahogany and maple. For balance of design and visual aesthetics, we enveloped the board with a frame the full width of the squares. The precision of the inlay work across the entire chess board is remarkable.
