This unique chess set includes our Bohemian Series Chess Pieces in ebonized and natural boxwood matched with our Walnut Burl and Bird's-Eye Maple Chess Board and Classic Bird's-Eye Maple Chess Box. Our Bohemian draws inspiration from a vintage German design of the 1950s, showcasing a distinctive knight with enchanting dragon-like features. This is a thirty-four-piece set that includes two extra queens for pawn promotion. The pieces are handcrafted from boxwood with the ebonized pieces stained and polished to a lustrous black ebony-like finish. This is a large, tournament size set with a 4-inch-tall king. The pieces are heavily weighted for exceptional stability and have thick green baize pads on the bottom for a soft cushion and that allow the pieces to slide smoothly across the chess board. The simplistic but elegant elements of this unique design from king to pawn allow the game itself to be the focus of attention while enhancing every move.Our Walnut Burl and Bird's-Eye Maple Chess Board offers a luxurious back drop for these special chess pieces. Handcrafted from premium veneer, this chess board highlights the deep, rich hues of the walnut burl contrasted with the golden tones of the bird's-eye maple. The squares are surrounded with a wide black delimiter and a black border on the outside accentuates the bird's-eye maple frame. A semi-gloss polyurethane finish both protects and enhances the color of the wood. The squares are 2.125" with an overall footprint of 21.5".Our Bird's-Eye Maple Classic Chess Box is wonderfully constructed and reminiscent of the old heirloom quality chess boxes from years ago. The box is covered in beautiful bird's-eye maple veneer that perfectly matches the chess board squares and frame with a lustrous semi-gloss polyurethane finish. The interior is lined with a thick emerald-green baize just like we use for the pads on our chess pieces. The box has a divider in the center for conveniently storing the black and white pieces separately. We use high quality brass plated quadrant hinges that neatly recess into the wall of the box and a brass plated lock and key for securing the lid when closed.
