This impressive chess set from the craftsmen at Italfama includes the Roman Emperor Bust metal theme chess pieces and their Walnut Burl and Whitened Bird's-Eye Maple Chess Board. This chess set depicts each piece as a statue on a Roman column and are easily recognized for what piece each one represents. Gaius Julius Caesar is the most well known of the Roman emperors and one of the most recognized names in all of history and is the king. The pieces are massive and heavy with a 4.75" tall king. Made of cast zinc using the old-world lost wax casting process, the pieces brass and nickel plated and then sealed with a lacquer to keep them from tarnishing over time. The chess board made from the finest walnut burl and whitened bird's-eye maple veneer is one of the most beautiful in our collection. Walnut burl has unique and beautiful character with rich brown and orange colors that intermingle creating in irregular patterns making each chess board a unique creation. The whitened bird's-eye maple used for the white squares creates a wonderful contrast next to the much darker walnut burl. A black delimiter defines the playing area from the extra wide frame gives this elegant chess board visual balance.
