This chess set includes the Battle of Troy hand painted theme chess pieces matched with our Gray and Erable High Gloss Deluxe Chess Board. This colorful chess set is s based on the Trojan War from Greek Mythology that was waged against the city of Troy by the Achaeans (Greeks) after Paris of Troy took Helen from her husband Menelaus king of Sparta. The war is one of the most notable events in Greek mythology and has been narrated through many works of Greek literature, most notably through Homer's Iliad and the Odyssey. The pieces are artistically designed with features and fine detail to capture the essence of the characters. The pieces are cast in solid polystone, an extremely hard, stone-like material, and are hand painted in realistic colors by highly skilled artisans with amazing detail.Our Gray and Erable High Gloss Deluxe Chess Board is made for us by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain, the largest manufacturer of high-quality chess boards in the world. This is an inlaid chess board made from gray stained ash burl and erable veneer sealed with a high gloss polyurethane finish to protect and enhance the beauty of the wood. The precision of the inlay work is remarkable. The squares are 1.75" and the overall size of the board is 17.5" and .5" thick. A triple inlay delimiter accentuates the squares from the extra-wide frame adding elegance to the design. The bottom of the board has felt pads to protect whatever surface it sits on.
