As a part of the U.S. Air Forces first supersonic jet fighter the F-100D was designed for ground attack missions and played a significant role in the conflict. With its powerful Pratt & Whitney J57 engine and advanced avionics the Super Sabre was capable of delivering a range of munitions including bombs rockets and napalm which were essential for close air support operations against Viet Cong and North Vietnamese forces.Throughout its deployment F-100D 55-3712 participated in numerous combat missions providing vital air support for ground troops and targeting enemy installations. The aircraft was known for its speed and agility allowing pilots to navigate through hostile airspace effectively. The 307 TFS flew thousands of sorties during 1965 often facing threats from ground-base.
