Acquired from the Soviet Union this aircraft was pivotal for the U.S. military as it provided firsthand experience with enemy aircraft capabilities and tactics. The MiG-23MS was a variable-geometry fighter-bomber designed for both air superiority and ground attack and it significantly enhanced the training and operational readiness of U.S. pilots by allowing them to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the Soviet aircraft.Throughout its time with the 4477th Red 39 participated in numerous evaluation exercises and dogfights simulating engagements against American aircraft. These tests were crucial in developing tactics that would be used in real combat scenarios especially during the Cold War when ten.
