From the workshop of Italfama in Florence, Italy, comes this unique and colorful chess set package that includes their hand painted metal Medieval Figurine Chessmen matched with their Elm Burl Wood Single Drawer Chess Case. The different pieces are designed to capture the essence of the medieval period representing the king, his queen, church bishops, armored horses for knight, a castle tower for the rook, and medieval soldiers for the pawns. Each pieces is hand painted highlighting specific features in the design while leaving the rest of piece in its natural color. The king is 3.625" tall and has a base diameter of 1.25". The pieces are solid cast zinc formed by the old-world lost-wax casting process and are brass and nickel plated. The pieces are lacquered to prevent them from ever tarnishing and have red felt pads embossed with the Italfama logo. Being solid metal the pieces are extraordinarily heavy with the complete set weighing over ten pounds.Handcrafted by the skilled craftsmen at Italfama in Italy, this luxurious faux leather chess board and tray is the perfect solution for both playing chess and then storing the pieces when you don't want them sitting out. The sides of the storage tray have an attractive stamped leather pattern adding to the realistic look of a hand-tooled leather case. The board has an elegant black decorative design around the outside and a stitched ribbing edge. On the flipside of the chess board you will find a backgammon board and plastic checkers, dice, and doubling cube are included. Inside there are 32 felt lined compartments for storing chess pieces and two compartments for the plastic checkers.
