This exquisite chess set includes our New Exclusive Staunton chess pieces in African padauk and boxwood matched with our Padauk and Bird's-eye Maple Molded Edge Chess Board. Our New Exclusive is purely traditional Staunton with a stature reminiscent of a fine Jaques set. The knights are hand carved with realistic features including ears, eyes, mouth, and nose. The pieces have a graceful profile with a wide and elegant base that creates a cohesive design from pawn to king. African padauk is one the most colorful woods in the world ranging in color from a burnt orange to burgundy and polishes to an amazing luster. This is a large set with a king with a base diameter of 1.875". The pieces are triple weighted for exceptional stability on the chess board and have thick green baize pads for easily sliding from square to square and a soft feel when placing. We include 2 spare queens for pawn promotion and a certificate of authenticity so you will always know what the chess set is, where it came from, and when it was made.Our exclusive Padauk and Bird's-eye Maple Chess Board was specifically designed to pair with our padauk chessmen. This is a handcrafted inlaid chess board made for us by Rechapados Ferrer. The quality of both the materials and workmanship in the construction of the chess board are simply unmatched. The squares are 55 mm (~2.125") and the overall size of the board is 21.5" and .5" thick. A wide black inlay border accentuates the playing area enhancing the rich colors of the African padauk and bird's-eye maple and a black stained molded edge adds an elegant touch to the chess board. The wood is sealed with a satin polyurethane finish that gives the board a soft shine.
